COMPUTING

Welcome to the new on-line computing magazine from ExNet Systems. We aim to provide you with the latest in computing, and with hot links for useful computing information on the Web. This magazine will be updated several times each month, and its focus will be on high-performance, parallel and multimedia computing, and the technology of the Internet. You will be able to keep up with the latest in computing for only a few minutes' effort each month.

Wot, no Windows '95 Backup?
Adaptec claims to provide the first all-in-one SCSI solution for Windows '95---``Adaptec EZ-SCSI 4.0 software provides 32-bit applications and tools for ultimate control, productivity and ease-of-use with SCSI peripherals.'' Version 4.0 provides tools that can be used with an Advanced SCSI Programming Interface (ASPI) compliant host adapter to support virtually all major SCSI peripherals. These applications and tools include: SCSI Tape Backup, CD-R mastering and duplication software, Photo-CD viewer and CD players, and SCSI Explorer (a collection of SCSI system management tools). ``If users truly want to take advantage of Windows 95, multitasking and Plug-and-Play, they'll need an effective and easy way to manage their SCSI peripherals,'' said S Sundaresh, VP.
Network Security for the Unconnected
The potential of distance learning over the Web is evident, but before you have even dared to connect you can learn about improving the security of your networks (especially important before connection to the Internet) from your own office by 'phone. The TeleSANS conference listed in the Diary is one example of a trend that I hope continues. The upside of such courses is a huge saving in time and effort travelling, though the downside is that you have no excuse to go to exotic locations at your company's expense!
